Byzantine Saints: Saint Julian, Bishop of Cenomanis Le Mans, Gaul (13 July)

St. Julian of Le Mans, commemorated on July 13, is honored as the first Bishop of Cenomanis (Le Mans) in Gaul. According to ancient tradition, he was consecrated by St. Peter the Apostle and sent to preach the Gospel throughout Gaul. Some traditions even identify him with Simon the Leper mentioned in the Gospel of St. Mark.
Arriving in pagan lands, St. Julian preached Christ with unwavering faith. His ministry was confirmed by extraordinary miracles—healing the sick, causing a spring of water to flow from dry ground through prayer, restoring sight to a blind man, and even raising children from the dead through God's power.
His miracles led to the conversion of a local prince, whose baptism inspired countless others to embrace Christianity. Through decades of faithful service, St. Julian eradicated idolatry in the region and established the Church in what would become Le Mans, France.
May the life of St. Julian inspire us to proclaim Christ boldly, trust in God's providence, and labor tirelessly for the salvation of souls.
