St. Bonaventure (1221–1274), the Seraphic Doctor and one of the greatest theologians in Church history, is celebrated for his profound teaching on the mystery of God, divine love, contemplation, and holiness.

In this homily, we explore the remarkable life of St. Bonaventure, the Franciscan Doctor of the Church who is often called the "Second Founder" of the Franciscan Order. Miraculously healed through the prayers of St. Francis of Assisi as an infant, Bonaventure would later become Minister General of the Franciscans, Cardinal Bishop of Albano, and one of the Church's greatest mystical theologians.

Drawing from his masterpiece, The Journey of the Mind into God (Itinerarium Mentis in Deum), this sermon explains Bonaventure's vision of the soul ascending toward God through contemplation. We also examine his profound meditation on the two great names of God:

"I AM WHO AM" (Exodus 3:14)
"God is Love" (1 John 4:8)

The homily beautifully unfolds Franciscan theology, the mystery of the Holy Trinity, divine charity, the Incarnation of Christ, and our universal call to holiness through prayer and contemplation.
