St. Aquila of the Seventy Apostles, commemorated on July 14, was one of the earliest disciples of Christ and a faithful companion of St. Paul the Apostle. Alongside his wife St. Priscilla, Aquila welcomed St. Paul into their home, labored beside him as a tentmaker, instructed the eloquent preacher Apollos in the fullness of the Christian faith, and helped establish the early Church throughout the Roman Empire.

After being expelled from Rome under Emperor Claudius, Aquila and Priscilla settled in Corinth, where they met St. Paul. Together they journeyed to Ephesus, evangelized the surrounding regions, and later returned to Rome. St. Paul praises them in Romans 16, calling them his beloved fellow workers who "risked their necks" for his life.

Tradition holds that St. Aquila became Bishop in Asia, preached throughout Asia, Achaia, and Heraclea, ordained presbyters, destroyed pagan idols, and strengthened countless Christians in the faith. He and St. Priscilla ultimately sealed their witness with the crown of martyrdom.

Their lives remind Christians that holiness is not limited to clergy or monks but flourishes within faithful Christian marriages devoted entirely to Christ and His Church.
