On June 22, the Catholic Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Zeno and Zenas of Philadelphia, courageous witnesses to Christ during the fierce persecutions of the early Church.

Saint Zeno was a wealthy Christian who freely distributed his possessions to the poor and granted freedom to his slaves. Together with his faithful servant Zenas, he boldly approached the pagan governor and urged him to abandon idolatry and embrace Jesus Christ.

For their fearless confession of the Faith, the two saints endured horrific tortures. They were bound to pillars, torn with iron hooks, their wounds rubbed with vinegar and salt, and their bodies scorched with fire. Even after being cast into a pit and having boiling oil poured over them, they remained alive through God's power and endured every suffering with patience and steadfast faith.

Finally, in the year 304 A.D., during the great persecutions against Christians, Saints Zeno and Zenas received the crown of martyrdom through beheading.

Their witness reminds us that earthly wealth and comfort are nothing compared to eternal life in Christ. May their prayers strengthen us to remain faithful in every trial.
