Pope Leo XIV has appointed Gabriele Caccia as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, the Vatican’s ambassador to both the U.S. government and the Catholic Church in the country. Archbishop Caccia said he was “honored and deeply humbled” by the Holy Father’s decision to appoint him nuncio to “the country and the Church” where the Pope was born and raised. Francis X. Rocca, senior Vatican analyst at EWTN News, joins to discuss the appointment and how it will impact relations between the U.S. and the Holy See. He also explains how Archbishop Caccia’s background is beneficial for this new role and what challenges he might face as he begins his mission.
