The beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen brought Catholics together in a powerful public celebration of faith, unity, and his enduring influence on the Church. Attendees described the procession and Mass as especially moving, with one estimating that 30,000 to 40,000 people gathered for the ceremony. For some, the event was deeply personal: one attendee shared that Sheen had helped reveal the meaning and purpose of life. A recent convert spoke about the impact of worshipping alongside so many Catholics. Sheen still inspires across generations, and still brings a divided Catholic community together.
Beyond the celebration, the discussion emphasized Sheen's legacy as a communicator of the faith and the responsibility of ordinary Catholics to help renew the Church. One speaker called for Sheen to return to radio and television, arguing the Church needs "clarity with charity." Another recalled Sheen's 1972 address to the Knights of Columbus, in which he challenged the laity to take responsibility for saving the Church.
"Unless souls are saved, nothing is saved." His beatification is not simply an occasion to honor a historic figure. It is a renewed call to evangelization, lay leadership, and the salvation of souls. Sheen is gone. But his mission is not. And the question is whether the laity will answer the call he gave them more than fifty years ago.
