Byzantine Saints: Martyrs Solochon, Pamphamer, and Pamphalon, at Chalcedon (17 May)

On May 17th, the Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs St. Solochon, Pamphamer, and Pamphalon, soldiers of the imperial army who courageously refused to sacrifice to pagan idols during the brutal persecutions of Emperor Maximian and Diocletian.
Serving under the tribune Campanus in Chalcedon, these Christian soldiers boldly confessed Jesus Christ as the one true God. For their faith, they endured savage torture, beatings, mutilation, and humiliation. Saints Pamphamer and Pamphalon died during the torment, while St. Solochon miraculously survived repeated torture through the grace of God.
Even when ordered to drink blood offered to idols, St. Solochon refused. His persecutors could not force open his mouth, and even iron instruments bent against him. After enduring unbearable suffering, he continued glorifying Christ until surrendering his soul to the Lord.
The witness of these holy martyrs reminds us that true faith demands courage, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to Christ no matter the cost.
