In this episode of The Lives of the Saints, we reflect on the inspiring courage of Saint Ulia and Saint Ampus, two young Christian martyrs of Nicomedia who gave their lives for the Faith during the persecutions under Emperor Diocletian (referred to in some manuscripts as “Garius”).

Ampus, a young Christian, fled persecution and took refuge in a cave, but his act of faith brought him to trial. When captured for refusing to sacrifice to pagan gods, he boldly declared that “the gods are only clay idols.” His unwavering courage drew the attention of the authorities—and his sister, Saint Ulia, joined him in his confession of faith.

Both saints endured severe tortures, emerging miraculously unharmed even after being plunged into boiling oil. Witnessing this divine miracle, 200 spectators converted to Christianity—and were martyred alongside them. Their sacrifice remains a powerful testament to faith, endurance, and the triumph of truth over fear.

🙏 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:10
