Saints Vitus, Modestus, and Crescentia are honored by the Church on June 15 as heroic martyrs who remained faithful to Jesus Christ during the fierce persecutions of Emperor Diocletian.

Saint Crescentia, the governess of the young Saint Vitus, together with his tutor Saint Modestus, protected the boy when his father sought to force him to abandon the Christian faith. Guided by an angel, they fled across the waters and found refuge in Lucania. There, Saint Vitus continued preaching Christ, healing the sick, and converting many pagans to Christianity.

When their witness became known, Vitus and Modestus were arrested and subjected to cruel tortures. Saint Crescentia publicly confessed her faith before the emperor and courageously rebuked him for his cruelty. Through their steadfast trust in God, the holy martyrs endured suffering with courage and received the crown of eternal life.
