What does the Catholic Church mean by “integral ecology”? This week on Vaticano, discover how the Vatican is bringing together care for creation, human dignity and service to the most vulnerable.

One year after its inauguration, we return to Borgo Laudato Si’ in Castel Gandolfo, created at the initiative of Pope Francis to put the principles of his encyclical Laudato Si’ into practice.

EWTN Vatican journalist Veronica Giacometti joins Cardinal Fabio Baggio for a special tour of the Borgo and explores how Pope Leo XIV is continuing this mission. From education and sustainable agriculture to programs helping migrants, refugees, people with disabilities and others in vulnerable situations, the Borgo seeks to make integral ecology a lived reality.

We also visit the historic Giardino della Madonnina, the spiritual heart of the Borgo and a place of prayer and contemplation for the popes.

Then, discover how the Sovereign Order of Malta puts integral ecology into action through humanitarian missions around the world. In Lebanon, its “Harvesting Hope, Growing Resilience” program supports local agriculture and food security, while in Kenya and other countries, the Order provides healthcare, humanitarian assistance and support for refugees and communities in need.

At Villanova University, where Pope Leo XIV earned his degree in mathematics, EWTN News correspondent Paola Arriaza Flynn speaks with Father John Abubakar, OSA, about the new Pope Leo XIV Sustainability Medal. The award recognizes leaders responding to both the “cry of the earth” and the “cry of the poor.”

Finally, step inside the Vatican Gardens, which cover roughly half of Vatican City. Meet the people who care for this historic green space and visit the Vatican’s vegetable garden near the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery.

Now cultivated entirely organically, the garden is part of a wider effort to reduce chemical use, conserve water and work according to the natural rhythms of creation.
