St. Eustathius of Antioch (Feast Day: February 21) was one of the great defenders of the divinity of Christ during the Arian crisis of the 4th century. As Archbishop of Antioch and a leading voice at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325, he stood boldly against Arius and the denial of Christ’s consubstantiality with the Father.

A learned theologian and man of deep holiness, St. Eustathius presided at the Council of Nicaea, where the Nicene Creed was formed and Arianism was condemned. Yet despite his orthodoxy, he was falsely accused, slandered, and exiled through the schemes of Arian sympathizers.

Even in exile, he continued defending the Orthodox Faith until his death in 337. His relics were triumphantly returned to Antioch in 482, and he is honored by great Fathers of the Church including St. Basil the Great, St. John Chrysostom, and St. Athanasius.

St. Eustathius stands as a pillar of the Church — a reminder that fidelity to Christ often comes with persecution, but truth ultimately prevails.
