There is a prayer being shared online right now that claims something extraordinary, say it thirty times and release one thousand souls from purgatory, attributed directly to a nun who lived seven hundred years ago. Open her actual writings, and that prayer is nowhere inside them.

This video looks at what Saint Gertrude the Great genuinely recorded in The Herald of Divine Love, including a documented encounter with the soul of a sister from her own community, still undergoing purification after death, and what she said had helped her most since dying. We walk through the three things Gertrude's writing points to again and again, the Mass offered with real intention, suffering accepted patiently and united to Christ's own passion, and ordinary charity extended to the living with the dead in mind. We also address the viral prayer honestly, where it likely came from, and why attaching her name to it does not hold up against her actual manuscripts.
