Today we honor Saints Lucian and Martian, martyrs of Nicomedia who once practiced the black arts but were converted by the power of Christ. After destroying their magical books and dedicating themselves to prayer and penance, they boldly preached the Gospel until their martyrdom under Emperor Decius around the year 250.

In this reading from Father Alban Butler’s “Lives of the Saints,” we witness the transforming grace of God — from darkness to light, from sin to sanctity.
