Martyr Laodicius, the keeper of the prison, is commemorated on May 13th alongside the holy martyr St. Glyceria. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Antoninus, St. Glyceria was tortured at Heraclea in Thrace and cast into prison upon sharp stones. Through fervent prayer, she was miraculously healed by an angel during the night.

When the jailer Laodicius entered the prison the next morning, he was astonished to find the saint completely healed. Fearing punishment because he believed she had escaped, he prepared to take his own life. But St. Glyceria stopped him and revealed the miracle of God’s mercy.

Deeply moved, Laodicius believed in Christ and begged the saint to pray that he too might suffer for the Lord. Courageously confessing himself a Christian before the authorities, he proclaimed the miraculous healing worked by God through His angel. For his bold faith in Jesus Christ, the newly converted Laodicius was beheaded by the sword and entered into eternal glory as a holy martyr.

This powerful story reminds us that even the hardest hearts can be transformed through the grace of God, and that true faith is worth more than life itself.
