At the heart of the Catholic understanding of the Mass is the Eucharist. The Catholic Church teaches that during the consecration in the Mass, the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is not simply a symbol or a reminder of Jesus, the Church teaches that Christ is truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Caitlin explains why this belief changes the answer to the question, 'Why should I go to church?' If Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, then going to Mass is not simply about attending a religious service; it is about encountering Christ, worshipping God, receiving the Eucharist and entering more deeply into communion with Him.

The Mass is also about communion with other people. The Church teaches that through Baptism, Christians become part of the one Body of Christ. When we receive Holy Communion, we are brought into deeper communion not only with Christ but also with one another. This means that going to church is not merely a social activity or an opportunity to see friends. There is something deeper happening through the Eucharist and the life of the Church.
