Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent—our last day in the "desert" before we enter into the holiest of all weeks.
In today’s reverent Homily, the celebrant reflects on the essential lessons of our Lenten journey: understanding the message God has for our lives and placing our deepest needs into His hands. Drawing from the prophecy of Ezekiel and the high priest’s unwitting prophecy in John’s Gospel, we explore the mystery of a God who gathers His scattered children into one. We are encouraged to embrace God's forgiveness and mercy, trusting that He who redeemed us by the death of His only begotten Son will not allow us to be weighed down by our trials. This Mass is a powerful invitation to become "sharers of his divine nature" as we prepare to follow Christ through His Passion.
The Scriptures highlight the promise of an everlasting covenant and the cost of our redemption:
-The First Reading (Ezekiel 37:21-28): The Lord God promises to take the children of Israel from among the nations and gather them back to their own land. He pledges to deliver them from their sins, make them one nation under one prince, and establish an everlasting covenant of peace with them, declaring: "My dwelling shall be with them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people".
-The Responsorial Psalm (Jeremiah 31): A proclamation of restoration: "The Lord will guard us as a shepherd guards his flock".
-The Holy Gospel (John 11:45-56): Following the raising of Lazarus, many Jews begin to believe in Jesus, causing the Sanhedrin to convene in fear. The high priest Caiaphas prophesies that "it is better for you that one man should die instead of the people," unknowingly speaking of how Jesus would die to gather into one the dispersed children of God. From that day on, they plot to kill Him, while the people look for Him in the temple, wondering if He will come to the feast.
May the nourishment which comes from the most Holy Body and Blood of the Son make us true witnesses of His love as we enter into Holy Week.

Theological & Liturgical Context
-Season: Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent.
-Gospel Focus: The Inadvertent Prophecy; through Caiaphas, the Word reveals that the impending death of Jesus is not a tragic end but a divinely ordained sacrifice meant to unify the human family and reconcile the "dispersed children of God".
-Homily Key Message: We are called to "draw into that which is essential"; as we leave the "desert" of Lent, we ask that our God be attentive to our supplications and protect us from being harmed by our sins or "weighed down by our trials".
