Blessed Jane Scopelli (1428–1491) was one of the great Carmelite mystics of the fifteenth century. Though born into wealth in Reggio Emilia, Italy, she desired nothing more than to belong entirely to God. Prevented from entering religious life while her parents lived, she embraced a life of prayer and penance within her own home until Providence opened the way.

After her parents' death, Blessed Jane founded the Carmelite Convent of Our Lady of the People, refusing to spend her inheritance so that the monastery would be built solely through the charity of the faithful. As prioress, she governed her community with humility while spending five hours each day in private prayer and embracing extraordinary fasting and mortification.

God rewarded her holiness with remarkable miracles, including miraculous healings, conversions of heretics, and the multiplication of bread when her convent had nothing to feed the sisters. Her life stands as a powerful reminder that sanctity is built upon prayer, sacrifice, trust in Divine Providence, and unwavering fidelity to God's will.
