Martyr Razhden of Persia, honored as Georgia's first Protomartyr, gave his life rather than deny Jesus Christ.

Born into a noble Persian family, Razhden came to Georgia with the Persian princess who married Holy King Vakhtang Gorgasali. There he embraced the Christian Faith, received an estate from the king, and faithfully served as a military commander.

When Persia invaded Georgia, Razhden distinguished himself as a courageous warrior. Captured after the battle, he was repeatedly urged to abandon Christianity and return to the religion of his ancestors. Despite torture, imprisonment, promises of freedom, and repeated attempts to persuade him, Razhden boldly confessed that Christ alone is the true Savior of mankind.

After voluntarily returning to Persian custody to keep his word, he was condemned to die by crucifixion. As arrows pierced his body, his final prayer echoed the words of Christ:

"Into Thy hands, O Lord, I commit my spirit."

His holy relics were later translated by King Vakhtang Gorgasali to the cathedral at Nikosi, where the memory of Georgia's first martyr continues to inspire generations of faithful Christians.
