Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Wednesday of the Second Week of Ordinary Time, as we honor the Feast of St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr.
In today's inspiring Homily, Father Carlos Suarez reflects on the life of St. Agnes, a young girl who stood firm in her faith despite the pressures of the world around her. He emphasizes the Collect's powerful theme: that God "chooses what is weak in the world to confound the strong". We are reminded that true strength does not come from physical power or worldly status, but from a heart that is anchored in the constancy of faith—just like Agnes, whose "twofold triumph of virginity and martyrdom" continues to guide the Church today.
The Scriptures reveal Christ’s eternal authority and His mission of mercy:
-The First Reading (1 Samuel 17:32-33, 37, 40-51): The author explores the fight between David and Goliath, and the relationship between David and Saul.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 110): A messianic prophecy of Christ's victory: "You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 3:1-6): Jesus enters the synagogue and encounters a man with a withered hand. Challenging those who watched to see if He would heal on the Sabbath, Jesus asks, "Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than to do evil?". Angered by their hardness of heart, Jesus heals the man, demonstrating that mercy is the true fulfillment of the Law.
Let us ask for the intercession of St. Agnes today, that we may bravely overcome every evil and attain the glory of heaven.
