Join The CatholicTV Network for a poignant and prayerful Daily Mass celebration on this Wednesday of the Third Week of Ordinary Time, as we honor the Memorial of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
In today's moving Homily, Father Marc Bishop addresses a community in deep mourning following the loss of Matthew Driscoll, a creative and compassionate student at Arlington Catholic High School. Reflecting on the "mystery of death," Father Marc invites us to lean into the wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas, who taught us to seek God's truth and express it through works of charity. Even in the face of tragedy, we are called to be the "rich soil" that hears the Word of God and bears fruit, trusting that the Lord is the "living bread" who sustains us through every trial.
The Scriptures highlight God’s eternal promises and the power of His Word:
-The First Reading (2 Samuel 7:4-17): The Lord speaks to Nathan, giving him a message for David. God promises to establish a house for David and a kingdom that shall endure forever, declaring of David's heir, "I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me".
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 89): A song of covenantal faithfulness: "For ever I will maintain my love for my servant".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 4:1-20): Jesus teaches the Parable of the Sower from a boat on the sea. He explains the different ways the Word is received—by those on the path, on rocky ground, among thorns, and finally, those on rich soil who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.
Let us pray for the Arlington Catholic and St. Agnes community, and that we may all learn God's truth and express it in works of love.
