In today's heartening Homily, Bishop Reed reflects on the pure joy of God's presence. Drawing from the account of King David leaping and dancing before the Ark of the Covenant, he reminds us that we are always blessed with the presence of God in our lives, even when it might not seem obvious. Bishop Reed encourages us to find comfort in the fact that God loves us deeply and cares for us in all our struggles and concerns. We are invited to share in David's joy, knowing that through our obedience to God's will, we become part of the very family of Jesus.
The Scriptures celebrate the arrival of God's glory and the new definition of kinship:
-The First Reading (2 Samuel 6:12-15, 17-19): King David brings the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with great rejoicing. Wearing a linen ephod, David dances with abandon before the Lord as the horns blast, later distributing bread and cakes to all the people of Israel as a sign of the feast.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 24): A liturgical entrance hymn: "Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord!".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 3:31-35): While Jesus is teaching, His mother and brothers arrive and stand outside, asking for Him. Jesus looks at those seated around Him and declares a profound theological truth: "Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother".
As we celebrate this Eucharist, let us pray to abound in good works so that we may always walk in the light of the King of Glory.
