What happens when a young boy is called upon to save Christmas Midnight Mass?

In this episode of Regina UNSCRIPTED – In Conversation, Katherine Bennett and Mark Lambert are joined by Catholic author and former Vatican tour guide John Sonnen, who shares the extraordinary true story behind his children's book, Little Louie's Christmas Miracle.

On Christmas Eve in 1925, a young boy with a remarkable gift for music found himself unexpectedly called upon to play the organ at Midnight Mass. What happened that night would change the course of his life, beginning a remarkable 72-year career as a church organist.

Inspired by the life of his own grandfather, John's book celebrates faith, family and the enduring beauty of Catholic tradition.

The conversation also explores how Christmas has become increasingly commercialised, the forgotten history of St Nicholas and why rediscovering Catholic culture matters more than ever.

Drawing on his eight years living and working in Rome, John also takes us behind the scenes of some of the Eternal City's greatest treasures, including the relic of Christ's manger at St Mary Major and the ancient tomb of St Peter beneath the Vatican.

In this episode:

• The true story behind Little Louie's Christmas Miracle
• How one Christmas Eve changed a boy's life forever
• The forgotten Catholic origins of Santa Claus
• Why Christmas has lost some of its spiritual meaning
• Rediscovering the beauty of Catholic traditions
