“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14)

In this traditional Catholic Christmas sermon, we meditate deeply on the great mystery of the Incarnation—the supreme meeting of opposites: eternity and time, divinity and humanity, majesty and humility.

Why did Holy Mother Church historically permit three Masses on Christmas Day? Because the mystery is too overwhelming to contemplate only once. Like children returning again and again to their gifts, we return to the manger with supernatural glee, opening not perishable presents, but imperishable heavenly gifts.
