At the first Christmas, heaven broke its silence.

A single angel appeared to the shepherds—then suddenly, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and proclaiming:

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will.”

In this profound Christmas Midnight Mass sermon, we meditate on the angelic hymn, the mystery of whether the angels spoke or sang, and how Christ Himself restores the broken harmony of creation.

Drawing from Sacred Scripture, Church Tradition, St. Leo the Great, and Fulton J. Sheen, this sermon presents Christmas as the moment when God introduces a new melody into a world wounded by sin.

Before the Fall, all creation resonated in harmony with God. After sin, discord entered the world—pride, rebellion, and separation shattered the divine symphony. Humanity could not repair it.

So God began a new song.

Not with thunder or command—but with a baby’s cry in a manger.
The first note of redemption was Christ’s birth.
The final note would be His cry from the Cross: “Into Thy hands, Father, I commend My spirit.”

Between the manger and the Cross, Christ rewrites humanity.

Through Baptism, Confession, and the Holy Eucharist, we are invited to become part of this new song, allowing divine grace to retune our hearts—God’s most precious instrument.
