The holy martyrs Hesperus, his wife Zoe, and their sons Cyriacus and Theodulus gave their lives for Christ during the brutal persecutions of the 2nd century under Emperor Hadrian.

This faithful Christian family, though enslaved by a Roman master, remained steadfast in their devotion to Christ. They refused to defile themselves with food offered to idols—a common pagan practice—and boldly confessed their faith when pressured.

When commanded to partake in sacrifices to false gods, they chose obedience to God over obedience to man. Their refusal led to unimaginable torture. The young brothers were brutally beaten before the eyes of their parents, who encouraged them to remain faithful to the end.

Finally, the entire family was cast into a blazing furnace. Yet even in death, God revealed His glory—their bodies remained unharmed, and angelic hymns were heard glorifying these faithful servants.

Their story stands as a powerful witness to courage, purity, and unwavering faith in the face of persecution.
