On May 2, the Church honors Saints Exsuperius (Hesperus) and Zoe of Pamphylia, along with their sons Cyriacus (Sirel) and Theodulus—a holy family whose journey from lukewarm faith to heroic martyrdom is both powerful and convicting.

Born Christians but fallen into indifference, Exsuperius and Zoe were awakened by the faithful example of their own children. When commanded to accept food offered to pagan gods during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, they courageously refused.

Arrested together, this entire family boldly confessed Christ before the judge. Their sons were tortured before their eyes, yet none denied the Faith. In the end, all four were cast into a fiery furnace, where they gave their lives as martyrs for Jesus Christ.

Their witness reminds us that conversion can happen at any moment, and that true faith is worth every sacrifice—even unto death.

A church was later built in Constantinople in honor of Saint Zoe, and relics of these martyrs are still venerated today.
