Venerable Paisius the Great, one of the most revered Desert Fathers of Egypt, is commemorated on June 19. Raised by Christian parents and guided from childhood toward a life of holiness, St. Paisius embraced the monastic life under the direction of St. Pambo and became renowned for his extraordinary fasting, prayer, humility, and obedience.
After withdrawing into the Nitrian Desert, St. Paisius received a vision from Our Lord Jesus Christ, who revealed that the wilderness would become filled with monks seeking salvation. Through his ascetic struggles, the saint received the gifts of healing, discernment, and spiritual foresight.
In this inspiring account, learn how St. Paisius defended the Christian faith, helped fallen monks return to Christ through repentance, and taught that the greatest virtues are those practiced in secret before God alone.
