Byzantine Saints: Martyrs Marcian, Nicander, Hyperechius, Appolonius,& Companions (5 June)

Martyrs Marcian, Nicander, Hyperechius, Appolonius, Leonitis, Arius, Gorgius, Pambo, Selenia, and Irene of Egypt are commemorated by the Orthodox Church on June 5. These holy martyrs lived in Egypt during the reign of Emperor Maximian and courageously confessed their faith in Jesus Christ despite severe persecution.
For their unwavering devotion to Christ, they were brutally scourged and cast into prison. Though left wounded and near death, an angel of God appeared to them and healed their injuries. Remaining steadfast in prayer and faith, they ultimately surrendered their souls to God through hunger and thirst while imprisoned, receiving the unfading crown of martyrdom.
Their holy example reminds Christians of the power of perseverance, faithfulness under suffering, and trust in God's providence even in the darkest trials.
