Many are wondering where Pope Leo’s first journey abroad may take him. In a recent interview, Lebanon’s Cardinal Bechara Rai suggested that the pope will visit Lebanon in the coming months. Though no official date has been confirmed, Cardinal Rai noted that “preparations are already underway” but emphasized they are still “waiting for the Vatican to announce it.” While the Vatican has not made an official announcement regarding any international trip for the new pontiff, many observers expect his first trip abroad to carry symbolic weight. One possibility being discussed is a visit to Nicaea, Turkey, to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council — a trip Pope Francis was set to make. Some reports suggest a combined visit to both Lebanon and Turkey could be under consideration. The pope’s first international journey is highly anticipated, as it often sets the tone for a new pontificate. EWTN Vatican Correspondent Valentina Di Donato has more.
