A person can go to Mass every week, say their prayers on schedule, and still be walking calmly toward hell without ever committing one scandalous public sin. Saint Alphonsus Liguori, remembered mostly as a gentle confessor and the patron saint of moral theologians, spent much of his life trying to make ordinary Catholics understand exactly that.

This video walks through the four habits Alphonsus named directly in his own writing as quiet pathways toward damnation, hatred held onto as a settled grudge, impurity and the blindness it causes, blasphemy treated as defiance rather than weakness, and dishonesty left unrestituted. We look at why he considered these four uniquely dangerous, the one thing he said ties all four together beneath the surface, an old comparison to a wound left untreated, and the two remedies he personally guaranteed could break even the most obstinate habit.
