St. Moses was a real Ethiopian former slave, a violent criminal, and a gang leader who encountered Christ and transformed through relentless repentance into one of the great Desert Fathers deeply venerated in the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

The film is set in modern Chicago, centering on Malik (Omar Epps), a powerful gang leader navigating survival. The story is told through an Eastern Orthodox lens, using icons and focusing on interior struggle rather than instant emotional conversion. It juxtaposes Malik, a man living by the sword, with the Saint who laid it down.
