In his keynote address at the Encyclopedia of Catholic Theology’s Second Anniversary Gala, Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P., reflects on the Church’s enduring confidence that reality is intelligible, that the human mind is made to know the truth, and that knowledge leads not merely to power, but to life.
The task of Catholic theology, then, is not to manufacture something new. It is to receive what has been given, safeguard it, and hand it on.
Fr. Pine situates the work of the ECT within this great tradition. In a culture marked by anxiety and suspicion, the Church offers something radically different: not ideology, but formation; not manipulation, but truth; not anxiety, but freedom.
