Byzantine Saints: Martyrs Agapius, Publius, Timolaus, Romulus, Dionysius, & Alexander (15 March)

On March 15, the Church commemorates the heroic Martyrs of Caesarea in Palestine: Saints Agapius, Publius, Timolaus, Romulus, two named Dionysius, and two named Alexander.
During the brutal persecutions under Emperor Diocletian, Christians were ordered to offer sacrifice to pagan idols during public festivals. Those who refused faced torture and death.
In Caesarea, the martyr Timolaus had already been condemned to death, and Saint Agapius was awaiting execution after being sentenced to be torn apart by wild beasts.
Moved by faith and courage, a group of young Christians—Publius, Timolaus, Alexander, another Alexander, Dionysius, and Romulus the subdeacon of Diospolis—decided to openly confess their faith in Christ.
As a sign of their willingness to suffer for the Gospel, they bound their own hands behind their backs and presented themselves before the governor Urbanus.
The governor attempted to persuade them to abandon their faith because of their youth, but they remained steadfast.
After imprisonment and terrible tortures, all these holy martyrs were ultimately beheaded, sealing their witness with their blood and joining the countless saints who remained faithful to Christ even unto death.
Their story reminds us that true Christian courage comes from unwavering faith in Christ, even in the face of persecution.
May the Martyrs of Caesarea inspire us to stand firm in our faith in every trial.
