Have you ever caught yourself imagining how much happier, more peaceful, or closer to God you would be if your circumstances were different? It can seem harmless, but this way of thinking can quietly hinder your spiritual growth with Christ. Satan wants you stuck in these two words: “if only.” In this video, we look at why “if only” can become a spiritual trap—and 3 simple things you can do to recover your peace and grow in holiness.

The problem isn’t wanting our circumstances to improve. The trap is making our peace, happiness, holiness, or faithfulness to God dependent upon something external changing. We begin looking to a finite circumstance to satisfy an infinite longing that ultimately only God can fulfill.
Drawing from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the spiritual wisdom of Fr. Jacques Philippe, St. Josemaría Escrivá, Jean-Pierre de Caussade, and Mother Teresa, we look at the importance of the present moment, abandonment to God, and the duties of our state of life.
In this video:
• How “if only” can quietly steal your peace
• Why changing your circumstances cannot ultimately satisfy your heart
• Why the present moment is so important in the spiritual life
• How abandonment and trust in Jesus bring peace
• Why the duties of your state of life are part of your path to holiness
• 3 practical steps for escaping the “if only” trap
The next time you find yourself living in “if only,” remember:
