The Catholic Church teaches that surrogacy is gravely immoral; but the stories of surrogate mothers have spurned larger conversation about the moral, legal, and ethical concerns over turning a child into a business transaction. Roselle Reyes speaks to one of those mothers, who says being a surrogate has impacted every facet of her life. The Heritage Foundation’s Emma Waters explains why the United States is an outlier when it comes to surrogacy and how it hurts both moms and babies. Cardinal Ernest Simoni has an incredible story of faith amid persecution. After offering a Mass in 1963 for the soul of assassinated President John F. Kennedy, he was sentenced to death. The sentence was commuted, but he was imprisoned in communist Albania for nearly thirty years under torturous conditions and forced labor. He spends his life now preaching the mercy, love, and compassion of Christ. The United States will see a tight midterm election this November – even Pope Leo has cast his absentee ballot for his home state of Illinois. Ken Craycraft, Professor of Moral Theology at the Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary and School of Theology discusses the upcoming election and whether Catholics are a reliable voting bloc this year. This weekend, the Catholic Church will beatify the Georgia Martyrs. Father Pablo Migone, Vicar for Mission Advancement in the Diocese of Savannah, discusses what the faithful can look forward to this weekend.
