On May 3, the Church honors Saints Timothy and Maura of Antinoe, a young married couple whose love for Christ surpassed even their love for life itself. Only 20 days after their marriage, Timothy—serving as a lector—was arrested during the brutal persecutions under Emperor Diocletian.

Ordered to surrender the sacred Scriptures for destruction, Timothy refused. What followed was a horrifying series of tortures: burning irons, mutilation, and relentless suffering—yet his faith never wavered.

In a cruel attempt to break him, authorities brought forward his young bride, Maura. Instead of persuading him to submit, she boldly proclaimed her readiness to die alongside her husband. Both were subjected to unimaginable torment and ultimately nailed alive for nine days before surrendering their souls to God.

Their story is a powerful witness to:

The courage to suffer rather than deny the Faith
