What drove St. Dominic to found the Order of Preachers?

For St. Dominic, preaching the Gospel meant persevering even when the work seemed unsuccessful. As a young priest in southern France, Dominic encountered people who had become separated from the truth of the Catholic faith. When others eventually returned home, Dominic remained, determined to continue preaching and bringing souls back to Jesus Christ.

In this reflection for the Feast of St. Dominic, Fr. Cyril Stola, O.P., shares how St. Dominic’s grit and determination helped give birth to the Order of Preachers, which continues to preach the Gospel and seek the salvation of souls more than 800 years later.
