In this reflection for the Feast of St. Dominic, Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., shares the story of an encounter that helped inspire St. Dominic's preaching mission. When Dominic met an innkeeper in southern France who misunderstood the truth about himself and the human person, Dominic stayed up through the night helping him understand that he was created in the image and likeness of God.

That same reverence for the dignity of every human person continues to animate the Dominican mission today. Just as Christ took on human flesh to make God known to us, the Dominican friars preach the truth of Christ so that people may come to know who they are and who God has created them to be.
