Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent.
In today’s stirring Homily, Father Bob Connors reflects on the Lenten challenge to look in the mirror and face our "true self"—the person God created for a specific purpose. Drawing from the trials of the Prophet Jeremiah and the ambition of the sons of Zebedee, Father Bob reminds us that discipleship is not about seeking places of honor, but about the courage to "own the danger" of following Christ. We are encouraged to move past our "myopic and selective" ways of responding to God, instead embracing a life of service that mirrors the Son of Man. This Mass is a powerful invitation to renew our commitment to being "better disciples" by giving our lives as a ransom for others.
The Scriptures highlight the cost of the prophetic calling and the path to true leadership:
-The First Reading (Jeremiah 18:18-20): The people of Judah plot against Jeremiah, seeking to destroy him "by his own tongue". Jeremiah pleads with God, asking if good should be repaid with evil and reminding the Lord that he stood before Him to speak on their behalf.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 31): A prayer of trust amidst opposition: "Save me, O Lord, in your kindness".
-The Holy Gospel (Matthew 20:17-28): As Jesus goes up to Jerusalem, He foretells His Passion for the third time. In sharp contrast, the mother of James and John asks for her sons to sit at His right and left in the kingdom. Jesus uses this "helicopter mom" moment to teach that "whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant".
May the pledge of immortality we receive today work for our eternal salvation and lead us graciously to the gifts of heaven.

Theological & Liturgical Context
-Season: Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent.
-Gospel Focus: The Inversion of Power; Jesus redefines greatness not by authority or dominance, but by the "chalice" of suffering and the willingness to serve, establishing Himself as the ultimate ransom for humanity.
-Homily Key Message: We are called to "outreach and care" for others, remembering that the Son of Man came to serve; our Lenten practices are an opportunity to align our false outward selves with the true self where Jesus resides.
