Are you producing weeds or wheat? Is the seed of Christ growing deeply within your soul—or being choked by money, power, prestige, anxiety, and the distractions of the world?

In this forceful sermon, Fr. Mark Beard examines Christ’s Parable of the Sower and its four kinds of soil: the path, rocky ground, thorny ground, and rich soil. Only the seed planted in rich soil perseveres and produces a harvest thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a hundredfold.

Fr. Beard challenges Catholics to ask where they truly stand. Do we know the Ten Commandments? Can we explain and defend the Blessed Virgin Mary’s perpetual virginity, Purgatory, Confession, the seven Sacraments, and the Holy Eucharist? Are we living the faith throughout the week—or expecting one hour on Sunday to undo everything we have accumulated?

Drawing upon Christ’s encounter with the woman accused of adultery, Fr. Beard explains how Our Lord calls us away from condemnation and into the wheat of repentance, mercy, and truth.

Every thought, word, social-media post, and daily action produces either weeds or wheat. If Christ observed your entire day, would He recognize you as His disciple?

Jeremiah speaks of names written in the earth, while Revelation speaks of the Book of Life. At the end of each day, we should ask: Did I cultivate wheat or weeds? Was my name written in the dust—or in the Book of Life?
