St. Mariamne, the holy sister of St. Philip the Apostle, is commemorated on February 17th as a righteous apostolic virgin who dedicated her life entirely to Christ.

After making a vow of virginity, St. Mariamne became the missionary companion of her brother, St. Philip the Apostle, and St. Bartholomew. Together, they preached the Gospel boldly throughout the ancient world, converting many to the Christian faith.

According to the Church historian Nicephorus Callistus, their preaching in the Phrygian city of Hierapolis led to their arrest and imprisonment. St. Philip was crucified for Christ, giving his life as a martyr. St. Mariamne and St. Bartholomew were miraculously set free.

After burying her brother, St. Mariamne continued her missionary work in Lycaonia and Asia Minor, preaching Christ with apostolic courage. She eventually reposed there in peace, having faithfully served the Lord as a consecrated virgin and missionary.
