Blessed Bartolomeo Pucci Franceschi was a noble citizen of Monteano who abandoned worldly honors and embraced the radical poverty of St. Francis of Assisi. Inspired by the first Franciscans, he left behind wealth and status after many years of faithful family life, entering the Franciscan Order with the consent of his wife, who herself embraced a vow of chastity.
In this reading from The Lives of the Saints by Father Alban Butler, discover the extraordinary humility, miracles, visions, and sanctity of Blessed Bartolomeo. Though reluctant, he was ordained a priest by obedience to his superiors and became known for heavenly visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the angels.
To conquer pride and human respect, Blessed Bartolomeo embraced the path of becoming a “fool for Christ,” willingly accepting ridicule and mockery in imitation of the humility of Christ and the saints.
