At the Second Vatican Council, something shocking happened: the Blessed Virgin Mary was pushed aside. A schema dedicated to her role in salvation was discarded. Cardinal Frings and his peritus, Joseph Ratzinger, argued that a separate document on Our Lady would alienate Protestants. The vote succeeded. Our Lady, in effect, was asked to leave the wedding feast.
Dr. Maike Hickson recounts this history through the eyes of her late husband, who was present at the Council. Archbishop Lefebvre wept after the vote of October 29, 1963—the day the Marian schema was buried. "The Virgin Mary left discreetly in profound silence," Lefebvre wrote, "so discreetly that the words 'They have no wine' remained unsaid." A year later, when Pope Paul VI declared Mary "Mother of the Church," an audible hiss filled St. Peter's.
The consequences followed. The Council remained silent on communism, a secret agreement with Moscow ensured no condemnation. The Church stopped calling for Russia's conversion. The Fatima message was marginalized. And the errors of Russia spread throughout the world.
Dr. Hickson also brings testimony from Bishop Bernard Fellay and Bishop Joseph Strickland, both affirming that Pope Francis's 2022 consecration of Russia fell short of Heaven's precise requests. Russia was not named exclusively. The call to conversion was absent. The First Saturday devotion was ignored.
