What does it really mean to be a “fool for Christ’s sake”?
St. Paul’s words challenge every Christian to examine whether our lives actually look different because we belong to Jesus Christ.
In this homily, we are invited into an honest examination of our spiritual lives:
How is my prayer life?
How faithfully do I attend church?
How seriously do I fast?
How do I prepare to receive the Eucharist?
How generous am I with my money, time, talents, and love for the poor?
These practices may look foolish to the world. Why spend Sundays and feast days in church? Why restrict what you eat, watch, or listen to? Why sacrifice your money, energy, and time for God?
Because the Christian knows Christ crucified.
This message is not about shame or guilt. It is an invitation to rediscover what is truly good, beautiful, and worth pursuing.
Prayer, fasting, worship, charity, and sacrifice train us to place Christ above comfort and to live according to the Kingdom rather than the expectations of the world.
With the great feasts of the Church before us, the question becomes personal:
How will I be a fool for Christ’s sake?
Not someone else.
Me.
Will my choices show the world that Jesus Christ is worth sacrificing for?
