St. John of The Cross (24 November): Prison, Poetry, and the Dark Night of the Soul

In today’s reflection, we honor Saint John of the Cross, the great Doctor of the Church, mystic, reformer, and co-founder of the Discalced Carmelites alongside Saint Teresa of Ávila.
Born in 16th-century Spain, St. John of the Cross dedicated his life to the reform and renewal of the Carmelite Order, embracing a deeper spirit of prayer, sacrifice, and contemplative union with God. His trials—including imprisonment by his own brethren—became the very place where the Holy Spirit inspired some of his greatest works, including the Spiritual Canticle.
