St. Platonis of Nisibis, commemorated on April 6, stands as a powerful witness to early Christian asceticism and the beauty of a life fully dedicated to God.

Originally serving as a deaconess, St. Platonis withdrew into the desert of Nisibis in Syria, where she founded a women’s monastery known for its strict and disciplined rule. The sisters ate only once a day, devoted themselves constantly to prayer, and labored in obedience and humility.

On Fridays—the day of Christ’s Passion—the entire community ceased all work, remaining in church from morning until evening, immersing themselves in Holy Scripture and sacred writings.

St. Platonis herself was a living example of holiness: marked by deep humility, strict asceticism, and profound love for her neighbor. After a long and faithful life, she reposed in peace around the year 308.

Her life challenges us today:
Are we willing to sacrifice comfort for holiness?
Do we structure our lives around prayer?
Are we truly seeking God above all else?
