Luke 12: 1 - 7

Jesus says: «Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy». Concealing our feelings is not hypocrisy but charity many times.

A hypocrite is someone who says the opposite of what they think, not someone who manifests the opposite of what they feel. When saints felt tired, they still smiled and attended to people. Or when they were treated badly, they treated others with kindness. To love is to give others the best of ourselves, and that is never hypocrisy.

St Josemaría used to tell the story of Luis Gordon. A young fellow who was with him one day looking after sick people in a hospital. And when he had to clean a bedpan with his hands he was smiling and repeating: «Jesus, let me put on a cheerful face!»

That's what we ask for ourselves as well.
