On October 7th, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, a devotion deeply tied to the victory at Lepanto (1571) and centuries of Marian prayer. The Rosary is not just a repetition of prayers, but a meditation on the life, passion, and glory of Jesus Christ, and a source of countless graces for the faithful.

In this reading from The Lives of the Saints (Father Albin Butler), we learn about:

The origin and meaning of the Rosary as a “summary of the Gospel.”

The historical roots of the devotion, tracing back to early Christian and monastic traditions.

St. Dominic’s role in spreading the Rosary, under the guidance of the Blessed Virgin.

The victory of Lepanto (1571) and later triumphs over the Turks, attributed to the power of the Rosary.

The establishment and extension of the feast by Popes Pius V, Gregory XIII, and Clement XI.

🙏 The Rosary remains a powerful weapon of prayer, accessible to everyone — from the simplest faithful to the greatest saints — and continues to lead souls to Christ through Mary.
