In Louisiana, a baby lost to miscarriage or stillbirth is officially classified as dying from a form of “abortion.” Catholic grief support group Red Bird Ministries is working with state lawmakers to change the wording, which dates from the 1940s. Kelly Breaux, co-founder of Red Bird Ministries, says the terminology reduces the dignity of the babies lost to early pregnancy and is painful for many families.
