The Great War and the Second World War provided the opportunity to install it. Now the system is failing, and it cannot survive.

"We've been trained not to see the elephant at all," Wright explains, "and to call the mess it makes of everything progress." The crisis is not national. It is global. And it is terminal. The system manufactures belief in itself through every form of cultural production, the things you buy, the terms and conditions you accept, the transactions that have replaced human relationships.

What is ending now is not the world. It is the world as we knew it. And the system that ruled us has no answers because the system is the problem.
